They call me a prophet. I’m not. I don’t perform miracles. I don’t speak for God. But I believe in one thing with absolute certainty— Marie Dumont was meant to be mine. They say it’s wrong. That she’s too young. That I’ll destroy everything I’ve built. My reputation. My calling. My place in this town. They’re right. It is wrong. Because I’m her pastor. Because she belongs to another life… one that doesn’t include me. But none of that changes the truth burning inside me. I see it every time she looks at me.
